Coloring your hair can take up time, which is why it can be frustrating to see the color fade eventually. The most common causes of color fading are the washing of hair, constant exposure to sun, or external aggressors like pollution. But not to worry! Because as your Mane Authority, we want to help you prolong your hair’s color for as long as you can, in between your salon visits. Read on below to see the tips we’ve prepared.
1) Use the right hair care products for your hair.
In prolonging your hair color’s vibrancy, it’s important to use shampoo and conditioner that are formulated or safe for your color-treated hair. For any hair color, we recommend using sulfate-free shampoos, like Kérastase Reflection Chromatique, P1,750. Sulfates not only hastens the fading of the color, but it also strips away the natural oil of the hair causing your tresses to be dry and damaged.
If you’re looking for other types of color safe shampoos, you may also try L'Oréal Serie Expert Vitamino Resveratrol Shampoo, P720, that not only protects color but also adds shine to your tresses.
For hair that’s dyed blonde, we recommend using purple toning shampoo to avoid brassiness and fading of the color. Purple toning shampoos, such as L'Oréal Serie Expert Silver Shampoo, P720, and Kérastase Blond Absolu Cicaextreme Shampoo, P1,750, will help maintain your blonde hue to be vibrant.

2) Wash your hair less often.
Just as how excessive washing can strip away natural oil and moisture, it can also fade your hair’s color quicker. Try to extend the period you don’t wash your locks to help prolong the color. In between your wash days, you may opt to use a dry shampoo to help your tresses feel fresh and clean.
3) Avoid heat styling.
Heat styling can fade your hair color quickly, especially if done regularly. Heat opens up the cuticle or outer layer of the hair and damages it, causing the color to fade. That’s why if you can’t avoid heat styling, we recommend using a heat protectant or lower the temperature.
4) Use temporary hair color as color maintenance.
Getting your hair done can be costly and time consuming, but maintaining your hair can even be more so with how often you have to visit the salons to touch up. Thankfully, it’s now possible to touch up at the comforts of your own home with temporary hair color. You can even include it in your routine as a conditioner or mask!
For conditioners, Davines Alchemic Conditioner, P1,600, enhances the colored hair and has variants for different tones. But if you’re looking to tone or spice up your light or bleached hair, Davines Alchemic Creative Creative Conditioner, P1,600, is the pigmented color-enhancing conditioner with different pastel options.
