Tangled Hair

What Causes Tangled Hair?

Hair tangles are when your hair strands wrap around each other and keep intertwining which ends up in creating knots, more knots, and bigger knots! Tangled hair can happen to anyone, no matter their hair type. Although here are some factors that mainly cause tangled hair:

  • Dry and/or damaged hair
  • Frizzy hair
  • Long hair
  • Curly and coily hair
  • Wind
  • Poor sleeping routine
  • Not brushing the hair

How To Fix and Avoid Tangled Hair?

Wash Your Hair Carefully

If you have tangled hair before and/or after taking a shower, then you’ll need to wash your hair carefully. Aggressively washing your hair can only damage your strands and bring about more knotty messes. So, try to use massage movements instead of scrubbing movements when using shampoo.

If you still have some tangles here and there, then coat your hair with conditioner so it’s easier for you to remove any knots. You can use the Kérastase Nutritive Lait Vital Conditioner (₱ 2,050) – a very nourishing conditioner for dry hair! Apply a generous amount of product onto your hair, especially by the knotty areas, and gently use your fingers to work out the knots so that you wouldn’t have to break your strands and damage your hair.

Do Not Rub Wet Hair With A Towel

As soon as you come out of the shower, avoid rubbing your hair with a towel. It sure is a convenient way of keeping your hair from dripping cold droplets onto your back, but it is also the easiest way to tangle up and damage your hair while it is in its most vulnerable state. Instead, gently squeeze your wet hair to remove excess water and gently pat your hair onto a towel.

Use a Leave-In Conditioner

Did you just find some new knots on your hair? No worries, you can still detangle your damp or dry hair with the help of leave-in conditioners! Apply a small amount of the Schwarzkopf BC Bonacure Peptide Repair Rescue Deep Nourishing Treatment (₱ 1,450) onto your ends and gently detangle your knots. The leave-in conditioner will act as a lubricant that makes your hair somewhat slippery, allowing you to remove knots smoothly and pain-free. More detangling after a shower can be tiring, but at least you get to treat your hair with more nourishment with these products!

Gently Brush Your Hair

Gently Brush Your Hair

Gently brush your hair from bottom to top, or rather, ends to root. Why? If you have tangled hair and brush from top to bottom, your tendency is to force the brush through your hair and knots, resulting in you breaking or pulling out your hair strands. It could also hurt your scalp a lot! So, brush your hair starting from the bottom so you can gently smooth out your ends before working your way up.

Paddle brushes are a great choice – they are lightweight, defrizzing, and work for both dry and wet hair! We recommend the AVEDA Wooden Paddle Brush (₱ 2,400) – a brush with extended bristles for easy detangling and it reduces stress on hair and scalp.

We all dream of smooth and tangle-free hair, right? So keep these tips in mind and you wouldn’t have to stress about annoying hair knots anymore! Do you have any hair concerns or questions? You can send our HairMNL experts a message and you can get a hair consultation for FREE.
